Overview

The Concept

Congratulations, your new employee badges and access control cards look great, increase security in your workplace and allow you to streamline your time and attendance systems. Now, how do you keep the bad guys from going to a color copier and counterfeiting one of their own.

Over the past few years the requirements for Security Laminates have drastically increased. The cause for the increase is two-fold. The first, our environment demands higher levels of security. The second, lamination technology has become more advanced in its application and quality.

PR5103 Stand-Alone Laminator

PR5103 ID Card Printer Security lamination offers a visual layer of security to your badges. Shown to the right is a generic NiSCA Secure ID laminate. As you can see the laminate product offers an almost transparent image over your printed card, but is visible enough so that your security guards and fellow employees will be able to see. This image can be customized to offer an exact reproduction of your company's logo.

The NiSCA ID Card Printer line offers a laminator for each model. NiSCA's laminators (we call them heat rollers) are sold as add-ons to the printers. Different from the competition, where you have to buy a printer laminator combination unit.

The Laminate Material

The laminate material (also know as overlaminate) is available in two basic categories, the first is thinfilm. Thinfilm (also known as softcoat) is a .5 mil material that offers security benefits of holograms and other visual effects, and also provides protection from the fading rays of the sun. The thinfilm material is usually sold in 180' rolls which will cover about 500 CR-80 cards.

The second category is holopatch (also known as hardcoat). This material offers the same holographic and other visual effect, but also adds more durability to the card. The holopatch material available from Team NiSCA can protect the card for up to 5 years.

The Visual Effects

Overlaminate can be as simple or as complex as you wish. Team NiSCA recommends that if you are developing a custom design, you should implement at least three types of effects in order to limit/restrict counterfeiting. Effects available:

Optical Variable Inks

  • Invisible UV fluorescent inks (short wave and long wave)
  • Dual UV fluorescent inks (one color short wave and different color long wave)
  • Color shifting inks (inks change colors as document is tilted)
  • Energy converting inks

Optical Variable Devices

  • Text effects-micro, nano, fine line printing
  • Embedded hologram-invisible to the eye
  • Hidden images-required specific wavelength to display
  • Scrambled indicia-requires custom lens over image to display
  • Image morphing and animation-images flipping, disappearing and reappearing

There are many effects available and can be customized to meet your needs. Please consult your reseller/VAR or a Team NiSCA sales person for more details.

PR5302 ID Card Printer

Laminators (Heat Rollers)

All NiSCA printers have a compatible laminator. The PR5100 and the PR5200 printers use the same laminator - PR5101. The PR5300 printer uses the PR5302 laminator. NiSCA now offers a stand alone laminator for use in almost any application. The PR5103 is a stand alone laminator that can be loaded with cards printed from a NiSCA, Fargo, Eltron or Datacard printer. It is the perfect tool for customers who want to add security to their cards, but don't want to replace their printers. Also, the PR5302 can be doubled up, so the system can apply two different laminate materials in one pass of the card.
