NiSCA provides solution for the University of Arizona

The University of Arizona’s Students, Staff, Faculty and Associates are truly enjoying the benefit of a campus-wide, one-card solution. The CatCard is the one card that does it all. Having worked with NiSCA, the CatCard Office staff is now able to provide more security and quality to supplement the CatCard’s current capabilities.

The CatCard is used for payment of meals, printing, copying, parking, bookstore purchases, and laundry. The CatCard is also used for access to computer labs, the library, the recreation center and for admission into tests. An added advantage is that the CatCard can be linked to the CatCard’s Banking Partner, Wells Fargo, and be used as an ATM/Debit card with a pin pad.
"The success of the CatCard was secured through the careful selection of vendors, including the printing and lamination equipment. “It took us six months to evaluate the solution providers. We looked at 14 providers and had 6 printer demonstrations,” – says Diane Tatterfield, the Assistant Director of CatCard Services. Diane added “we had a mixed team of front end users and Information Technology experts to make our perfect selection. We selected the NiSCA printers for the printing quality and flexibility. It was important for us to be able to upgrade components as needed, upgrade with contact and contactless smartchip encoding, and with lamination applications at any point after the purchase of a printer…"

Ribbon Breaking

Ribbon breaking can be due to a number of issues. First, the most problem associated with ribbon breaking is excessive heat. This can be resolved by lowering the printer’s OD or Optical Density in the service mode of the printer under adjustment mode. Second, most people do not realize that poor image positioning on card can cause ribbon breaking as well. An image printing off the format of your card can cause ribbon breaking also. When the printer is in the process of printing an image, the card acts as a heat sink and it absorbs a lot of the print head’s energy. If the image is off the card, there is no card to absorb the energy and your print head transfers all its energy into the ribbon causing to break. Finally, not using genuine Nisca Ribbons can cause ribbon breaking as well as poor image quality. Also, any service issues due to non Nisca ribbons are not covered under warranty.Click here to see our line of Genuine NiSCA Ribbons.

IMPORTANT CLEANING TIP:
Cleaning your printer after every ribbon change will drastically increase the life expectancy of your print head. We provide cleaning kits that work with our automated cleaning function in the user mode. Each kit will last up to 10k prints. This 10 second cleaning could save you time and money for repairs.

How can we control up to 8 printers at one time from ONE computer?

This is known as our Central Production Solution. Using one computer, a USB hub and NiSCA printers you can control up to 8 printers. You can use this solution to have a production environment that will print up to 1200 cards per hour. When you send a large quantity of cards the driver will look and find the printer that is not currently printing and then send the print job to that printer. If one printer happens to go off line for any reason the other printers will continue to print.

We can also send specific jobs to specific printers. You can have printers with different card types i.e.: laminate, Mifare, iCLASS, mag-stripe and by the card template that you send it will automatically send the job to the specific printer that is handling that card type.

We hope that our letter will generate communication between Team Nisca and Nisca users.
